The Client Position

The initiation of a multi-year portfolio of IT platform, application and process change was a significant undertaking for the Society. The Board and Executive required independent delivery and execution risk assurance.

The Need

A flexible assurance model to advise upon IT system decisions, portfolio creation, key programmes and a pan-portfolio risks.


Experienced advisor to work alongside key programmes to as a 'critical friend' and assist teams in delivery of complex outcome requirements.

The Approach

  • Risk assessment of the efficacy of systems analysis, capability and capacity.
  • Business and execution risk assessment of core system replacement versus enhancing incumbent platform
  • Assessment of the definition of a portfolio roadmap and associated governance. 
  • Embedded assurance of three crucial programmes delivering a mortgage system, upgrade of an oracle estate and, the delivery of DevOps, test environment capability.

The Outcome

Each phase informed the Society with key insights, highlighted risks with proposed solutions. An independent perspective was valued by the management team and was able to surface the less obvious risks and insights across the phases. The Society made changes to the governance, resourcing and delivery based upon the output from the assurance.
