The Client Position

The client was working to meet the revised data requirements to feed the Solvency II requirements. They had identified that their international general insurance business was using different methods and tools that did not enable a consistent data set to feed required models. A programme had been initiated but was not delivering the required results.

What the Client Said

Stephen m'a beaucoup apporté par ses conseils avisés et son expérience dans le cadre d'un projet complexe et stratégique.Je lui en sais gré et lui adresse tous mes remerciements.'

(Translation)'Stephen brought me a lot with his wise advice and his experience in the context of a complex and strategic project. I am grateful to him and send him all my thanks'

Louchard Michel - Directeur des Risques à la retraite (Aviva France)

'Stephen works very well in fast paced, highly changable, pressure packed environments. While those around him panic,Stephen remains calm and keeps the team focused on the deliverables at hand..'

The Need

  • To turn-around a delinquent Programme of change to deliver a centralised general insurance modelling solution utilising the then Towers Watson Igloo platform
  • Remediation of the incumbent programme to provide a single consistent data modelling solution consistently used across their global centres.

The Approach

  • Assessed the Programme and identified issues with delivery processes and coordination, stakeholder attributes and communication and, resolution of disparate model requirements
  • Defined a set of consistent processes and requirements that met all central and local regulatory requirements.
  • Constructed a shared development approach to involve all centres in the development and delivery of the modelling solution.
  • Revised processes and controls to provide consistent data modelling outputs for Solvency II model inputs
  • Implemented the revised modelling solution and ways of working across UK, Ireland, France and Canada
  • Managed the full development lifecycle, technical architecture, model validation, functional and non-functional requirement testing, data migration from existing models, new unified target operating model and resourcing, transition to BAU and transition to an IBM managed service.

The Outcome

  • New operating model implemented to support the data provision and modelling data consolidation
  • Consistent general insurance data modelling, processes and controls were implemented.
  • The resulting consistent data output enabled the client to meet Solvency II data requirements.

Value to the Client

  • Successfully remediated the project and delivered a unified Igloo general insurance model consistently used across all locations and actuarial teams.
  • Consistent provision of data for modelling and Management Information generation
  • Ability to provide required data into Solvency II internal model processing.
